SupportME was created
by a recovered M.E./CFS sufferer as a positive online resource for sufferers
of the condition. A particular emphasis is placed on positive information.
This is because it is felt that so often recovery stories are not aired,
as many who get better tend to forget or be too busy to pass on information
on what has helped them. Whilst recognising how debilitating and severe
the illness can be for some sufferers, we want the site to have a positive
emphasis. Above all, we want to show others that, despite the chronic
nature of this illness, there can be 'light at the end of the tunnel.'
We aim to:
(1)
Provide Information,
News, Research Updates... Thus attempting to make information more
accessible to other sufferers. This includes regular news and research
summary updates from around the world; ME/CFS research articles/abstracts
on the condition; and a detailed, balanced, and fully-referenced guide
to the condition aiming to try and answer frequently asked questions.
(2) Through
our Chat Rooms and Information Forum, facilitate the exchange of beneficial
information and provide an additional Social/Support Network for sufferers.
We hope that through the creation of this virtual community, it will help
address the isolation that many people feel; and also allow sufferers
to pass on and share helpful information, such as factors that have assisted
their recovery. In this way, it is hoped, that sufferers can benefit through
managing to avoid finding things out the hard way!
(3) Make
Products that may be helpful to some sufferers, such as Nutritional Supplements
and Self-Help Books, more affordable and accessible, whilst at the same
time helping to raise vital funds for Research into finding a cure for
the condition. These products are in keeping with the complementary/wholistic
approach to managing the illness endorsed by a number of ME/CFS Charities
and on the findings of certain clinical trials that have highlighted the
possible benefit of some products in helping relieve symptoms. All products
are very substantially discounted and the margins are very small. The
site is run by a recovering M.E. sufferer and we are dedicated to donating
a percentage of any profit generated to help fund ME/CFS Research. As
the Web site expands, we hope to be in a position to donate an increasing
percentage of funds to this end.
We adhere to
a strong code of ethics and only offer products that we genuinely feel
may be of benefit to sufferers. As a result of this, we aim to merely
supply you with the information, through, for instance, research articles
from respected journals, so that you can make an informed choice yourself.
